Honorable/ Heads of Academic Departments Head of Administrative and Financial Affairs (Peace, God’s Mercy and Blessings Be Upon you all)

Subject:

Starting of the academic year 2009-2010 On the occasion of the new academic year, I would like to extend my best wishes to you all, hoping that once more it is going to be a year full of dedication, hard work and great success.

It is a happy coincidence that for this year, we have both the academic year and the Holy month of Ramadan starting together.

Our best wishes as well on the occasion of this Holy month, May it be the month of work and worship that it was meant to be.

And May the Lord Bless you all.

I won’t forget to greatly thank all those who committed themselves to hard work and devotion, and likewise directly contributed to the great successes of the previous academic year(s).

Honorable faculty members; support faculty members; & administrators, I am looking forward to work with you all so as to accomplish our desired goals. Needless to say that in order to attain our objectives, we have to be dedicated, assiduous, and hardworking. If everybody, from his own position, is so committed, not only can we do all that we are required to do, but we can update and modernize the ways things are done at our college.

Such a modernization cannot be done without prior planning; to be sure we need to appraise our previous accomplishments, and see how can we improve our performance; our final goals being no less than greater success and excellence.

In this respect, our official policy has always been to encourage innovation and creative  ideas, and so as to help attain quality assurance standards.

Could I now emphasize the following points pertaining to the current period and the near future:

 ·        We shall, evidently, continue to work on our quality assurance requirements; we need to write down reports, and take all necessary measures…

The co-operation of everybody with the ad hoc quality assurance committee is more than needed.

 ·        We met with the Support Academic Departments, as well as with the Administrative and Financial Affairs Department, for the express purpose of setting up some executive plans and future projects, especially that we are currently working on a comprehensive plan for the whole college.

However, we are yet to receive the above mentioned departments’ own contributions.

Please bring your own plans to the Dean’s office no later than September 2d, 2009.

 ·        It is our wish to see the academic departments’ meeting be more effective, and so to contribute even further to the fostering of the learning process. Therefore, we would like all academic departments to bring forward the minutes of their meetings to the Dean’s office at the end of each month.

 ·         All faculty members are called upon to upgrade the level of their teaching, and especially to take academic counseling more seriously.

Needless to mention that faculty members do naturally follow a particular deontology of their own; at the same as we insist on such deontology, we would like all members to show the right path to their students, in terms of both hard work and exertion, as well as adherence to proper rules of conduct.

·        It is our common effort (whether being academics, assistant academics, or administrators) to inculcate a culture of rigor and punctuality. I do not accept the idea that students would come to class late, leave their lecture earlier than planned for, or not respect deadlines…!

·        We shall continue our support for public presentations and research, as well as for seminars and conferences.

·        Support for the local community will continue to be among our top priorities

.        Our aim will be more of an exchange  of interest between our college and the neighboring institutions, governmental or private alike.

·        We will continue to improve our ways of communication through both the intra-net and the internet. It is our common duty that the current ways of communication are improved upon. I would rely on everybody to bring forward any practical suggestions that might help with better communication, for also with the latter a better performance is guaranteed.

·        The project of building an IT Centre is well advanced by now, hopefully the whole project will be finished soon. The same can be said of the project of the Women’s Restroom. It is our objective also to introduce some improvement on the classrooms, and the services related to the cafeteria. The new building of the college’s Deanship is also among this list of construction projects soon to see the light, Inshallah.

·        There are some projects to enhance the delivery of better services on the part of several departments; albeit we are still working on the executive plans needed for these projects. All academic departments & the assistant academic departments are called upon to go ahead and implement the new plans soon to be made public.

 ·        The backyards, alleys, and corridors of our college are also worth upgrading. We are making great effort fixing electronic notice boards, where all sorts of information about different parts of the college, such as Departments, Admin., etc. will be displayed.

Finally, I pray to God so as to benefit from his help in the accomplishment of our desired priorities and goals.
